Authentic Stone House in Zakynthos Town
Villa Galanoussa is an original family house dating back to the start of the 20th century. Unlike the majority of homes in Zakynthos town, this house is among the rare few that continued to be lived in after the devastating 1953 earthquake in Ionian islands. The idea of the restoration began years ago, when the careful removal of the whitewash layer revealed the dark Zakynthos stone beneath, bringing the house's original character to light. The aim was to highlight the architectural heritage of Zakynthos - from natural local stone and handmade clay tiles, to traditional wooden doors, windows, and rustic structural details - while also honoring the memory of previous generations by preserving select family related elements throughout the house, inside and out. Villa Galanoussa guests immediately sense that this is not a purpose-built holiday home, and their stay becomes a true part of local life in Zakynthos.
